Aero Medical Transportation

​Maryland Medicaid will cover both the fixed wing and helicopter transports of participants when medically necessary. This service is limited to the inter-facility transports for a higher level of care, when the sending facility lacks a service that the receiving facility can provide and ground transport is medically contraindicated. 
 
Effective October 1, 2022, the Maryland Department of Health’s Utilization Control Agent (UCA), Telligen, will assume responsibility for reviewing and authorizing Air Ambulance Rotary Wing (RW) claims submitted to Maryland Medicaid.
