Maryland Medicaid will cover both the fixed wing and helicopter transports of participants when medically necessary. This service is limited to the inter-facility transports for a higher level of care, when the sending facility lacks a service that the receiving facility can provide and ground transport is medically contraindicated.
Effective October 1, 2022, the Maryland Department of Health’s Utilization Control Agent
(
UCA), Telligen, will assume responsibility for reviewing and authorizing Air Ambulance Rotary Wing (RW) claims submitted to Maryland Medicaid.
