A Message for Current & Future Maryland Responds Volunteers

Thank you so much to all of our current and future Maryland Responds Medical Reserve Corps volunteers for all that you do and have done for the citizens of our state. Since the start of the pandemic, there has been an amazing and overwhelming response to our call for volunteers to help keep Marylanders healthy and safe. Over the past several months, that demand has increased even more with the start of COVID-19 vaccinations across the state. With that in mind, please be aware that there is a vetting process that we must go through with all applicants to ensure that our responders are placed in the area that best fits their skills and experience. It takes a team of up to five people to complete the vaccination of just one person. This means that not all responders will be able to give the actual vaccine injections. We also need responder volunteers to check-in the patients as they arrive, ask screening questions, monitor them after vaccination and more.

We appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and willingness to help during this critical time for our state. We also appreciate your patience as we work on registering and reviewing the hundreds of new applications that we receive every week. Also, keep in mind that as the vaccine supply increases, the level of activity for our Maryland Responds volunteers will also increase. Be sure to monitor your email in order to stay up to date on the progress of the response.

Thanks again for your commitment to keeping Maryland safe and healthy. If you have any
questions or concerns, please email us at mdresponds.health@maryland.gov.
