Nestled in the Allegheny plateau of the Appalachians, historic Cumberland is the center of activity for Western Maryland. Although the city itself is only 620 feet above sea level, the surrounding mountains rise skyward to a height of 3,360 feet. This allows the area to offer the best of both worlds for recreation. Summer activities include sailing, hand-gliding, boating, water skiing, fishing, camping, horseback riding, golf, cave exploration or a family picnic in a nice secluded spot. Rocky Gap State Park and Resort, with its Habeeb Lake, is within five miles of the Center. Rocky Gap also features a Resort area for local golfing and a casino! Deep Creek Lake, with a 65-mile shoreline, is about a 45-minute drive from the Center. All of this has lush, green mountains as a backdrop.
