About Us

Our Vision

To promote and enable the intersection of policies, processes, technology, and people responsible for using and managing data as a secure and strategic asset.

Our Mission

The purpose of the Maryland Department of Health is to promote and improve the health and safety of all Marylanders through disease prevention, access to care, quality management and community engagement.

The mission of the MDH Data Office, established by Executive Order 01.01.2021.09, is establishing and implementing the necessary policies, processes, and standards that support creating, maintaining, analyzing, and making high-quality data accessible across all of MDH’s programs, including managing and integrating data assets that support a self-service model to drive decision-making, research, strategy, and public engagement by internal and external stakeholders.

MDH Data Office aims to transform MDH’s isolated views of individual businesses insights to a unified enterprise view with a vision of whole being greater than the sum of the parts. This is the first axiom of MDH’s data strategy, to pioneer our business decision-making process by transforming information to insights, data to discernment, and decision-making through enterprise data governance & analytics. In this way, the MDH Data Office supports the mission of MDH by increasing value of MDH data so that it may be leveraged to gain greater insight targeted response to and improvement of the health of Marylanders.
