Maryland Social Workers

The Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners (the “Board”) has been following the events locally and nationally related to COVID-19. The President, the Governor and local officials have implemented changes to keep citizens safe and less likely to become infected with the COVID-19.

The Board is examining its laws and regulations to determine if changes are warranted and can be helpful to enable social workers to serve their clients in the midst of this crisis. We are aware of some of the problems related to teletherapy, continuing education, the suspension of ASWB examination testing, requests for extensions and other areas of concern. Changes are being considered and discussed by the Board as well as with the Attorney General’s Office.

We hope to provide you with more information in the coming days to provide more clarity and guidance to practice social work in Maryland. Please note that at this time the Board has not changed or suspended any requirements stipulated in its statute or regulations.

We encourage you to follow the guidelines of the CDC and the Maryland Department of Health to remain safe and healthy.
