New Licensing Requirement for Assisted Living Managers

Effective July 1, 2026, assisted living managers will be required to be licensed by the State Board of Long-Term Care Administrators to practice and oversee the overall day-to-day operations of an assisted living program in the State. The Board will be the licensing authority for assisted living managers and will be mandated to protect the public by regulating the practice of assisted living managers; licensing qualified assisted living managers; enforcing statutes and regulations; investigating complaints based on alleged violations of regulations and statutes; and conducting formal and informal disciplining actions against licensees.

This requirement is pursuant to the passage of HB 1034/SB 720, Acts of 2022, whereby assisted living managers will be required to be licensed to practice and the passage of HB 874, which extended  from October 1, 2024 to July 1, 2026, the date by which an individual must be licensed by the State Board of Long-Term Care Administrators to practice.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The proposed regulations for the State Board of Long-Term Care Administrators, which includes new regulations for the licensing of assisted living managers, are currently being navigated through specific procedural steps in accordance with the State’s Administrative Procedure Act (APA).
