Important Notice Regarding Alkaline Hydrolysis and Natural Organic Reduction
As of October 1, 2024, the Green Death Care Options Act, which includes alkaline hydrolysis and natural organic reduction, has been enacted in Maryland. However, these methods are currently not regulated in the state. The Maryland Board of Morticians and Funeral Directors along with other state agencies is actively drafting regulations to address these options.
Until the regulations are finalized, ALL questions or concerns should be directed to the Board staff at 410-764-4792 or via email at mdh.bomfd@maryland.gov. We will address all questions accurately and promptly. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we complete this process.
