The U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP)  features National Health Observances each month as a part of its mission to improve the health of Americans nationwide.  This month ODPHP is focusing on:

  1. National Physical Fitness and Sports
  2. Older Americans
  3. Mental Health Awareness
  4. National Women’s Week this coming May 12th - 19th

According to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, the exercise recommendation for adults is at least 150 minutes per week.  An athlete easily exceeds this goal weekly but non-athlete adults may find it challenging.  Often people say they don’t have enough time.  Americans also cite not feeling well enough to exercise.  Not only has acupuncture been found to help patients feel well enough to meet the recommended number of minutes of exercise weekly, it has also been sought by athletes to ensure optimal performance.  Some resources to dig deeper are

Gone are the days when being a senior means one stopped working by 65 and sat in a recliner or rocking chair most days.  According to the National Institutes of Health, MedlinePlus Magazine, aging well is a science and an active one.  There is a growing body of evidence that cites Acupuncture as a beneficial part of the science of healthy aging.  Stroll on over to the following resources to acquire some wisdom:

In 1946 The National Mental Health Act was authorized to improve the mental health of American citizens through the research of causes, diagnosis and treatments of psychiatric disorders.  Three years later the National Institute of Mental Health was authorized to carry out this mission.  Since then, notable strides have been made that have improved the quality of life for our community and family members living with mental illness.   One of these notable advances is the recognition of Acupuncture as a beneficial part of the mental health treatment plan.  Take an introspective moment to review some resources:

Each year on Mother’s Day, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office on Women’s Health (OWH) promotes National Women’s Health Week (NWHW) to illuminate women’s health on all levels, and encourage women to prioritize their care.  The practice of Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine has gained notoriety as an integral part of woman wellcare.  So grab your best friend, mom, auntie, daughter, niece or favorite guy to review and chat about the following resources:

This month’s ODPHP health observances touch every member of our communities and families.  The shared resources for each health observance drives home the point to our communities and families about the practice of Acupuncture and East Asian medicine and its benefit to overall wellness.

DON’T FORGET that the Board has eliminated manual payments (checks and money orders).  Electronic payments are a convenience for Licensees and improves the efficiency of the services provided by the Board.  Board staff is excited about the progress made in this area of the operation and is appreciative of your cooperation.
