Do You Have A Plan?
No one likes to think about an emergency that could disrupt our daily lives or cause harm to us or those we care about, but a little advance planning can be the difference between tragedy or survival. In an emergency situation, readiness is the key! For yourself, your loved ones, and your neighbors, make a plan to be safe!

Step 1: Start a Conversation
Begin developing your emergency plan by considering the following things: What are the most likely events to happen in your area (natural disasters, man-made events, and major health emergencies)? Who can your family contact (both out of town or out of state) to "check in" and let others know you are safe? Where can you and your loved ones meet (outside of your house or outside your neighborhood) if you have to evacuate? Do any of your loved ones have special needs to consider (elder care, a medical condition, etc.)? Also, keep your pets in mind when planning for emergencies.

Step 2: Make a Plan
Gather important information into one place and share it with your family. It will save time when you need it the most. Make sure everyone knows the emergency phone contacts and how to get to designated meeting points.

Step 3: Make a Kit

Start simply! Here are nine essential items to keep on hand in case of an emergency:

1. One gallon of water per person per day for three days.
2. Non-perishable food items.
3. One change of clothes and footwear per person.
4. Three-day supply of any needed prescriptions.
5. At least one flashlight and extra batteries.
6. Manual Can Opener
7. Hand-Crank, Battery or Solar-Powered Radio
8. Hygiene Items: Soap, toilet paper, toothbrush, etc.
9. Basic First Aid Supplies: Antiseptic, bandages, etc.
