Maryland Youth Camp Safety Advisory Council
The Maryland Youth Camp Safety Advisory Council was established in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene through legislation which passed in 1986. The duties of the Council are to advise and assist the Department in developing and reviewing the regulations concerning the regulation of youth camps. The Council makes a report each year to the Secretary regarding the number of camps and campers in Maryland.
Maryland's regulations regarding youth camps were most recently updated in 2004. The Council was instrumental in working with Department staff to write and establish these new regulations. Camper safety is the uppermost concern of the Council members, and the new regulations further protect the health and safety of Maryland's young campers.
