The recent activities surrounding H1N1 (Swine) Flu and the potential for natural disruptions as we move into hurricane season strongly suggest that all employees develop a family preparedness plan.
Family preparedness plans help to assure your required participation and attendance during a disruptive event or declared disaster, and help you organize a plan to care for yourself, your children, elderly relatives and pets during an emergency. To assist you in this important planning process, the Department has prepared a website which contains guidelines and basic information to help you complete your family preparedness checklist. You can access this resource on the DHMH website at http://www.dhmh.state.md.us/familyplan. The site also provides additional links to more extensive state, federal, and private planning resources.
Employees who are included by name or position in the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) for their DHMH business unit are considered “COOP Critical” and, as such, will be required to complete a Family Preparedness plan by November 30, 2009. While not required as part of the Department’s COOP plans, all DHMH employees are encouraged to complete this important process.
So please take the time to complete a family preparedness plan. We believe this planning will help protect yourself and your family during an emergency. The process is easy to complete and self-explanatory - just follow the directions on the website. Supervisors will provide workplace guidance and will acknowledge the receipt of each employee family preparedness checklist.
