Caroline County Environmental Health actively partners with Caroline County Humane Society to monitor and control the spread of rabies in the county through a combination of vaccination clinics, animal bite reporting, proper quarantine procedures, and the testing of potentially rabid animals.

WORLD RABIES DAY: SEPTEMBER 28th
An exposure to the rabies virus may occur when a person is
bitten by or exposed to saliva of a rabid animal. It is extremely important to
take the necessary steps to keep you and your family safe from any exposures to
the rabies virus:
1. Always keep your pets up-to-date on rabies vaccinations.2. Keep your pet(s) under your control at all times, especially when traveling.3. Enjoy wildlife from a distance. Do not feed wildlife.4. Avoid contact with sick animals and any animals that are acting in an unusual manner.5. Keep garbage cans covered securely. Do not leave pet food outside.6. Do not attempt to relocate wildlife.7. Prevent bats from entering your home.
